Since its founding in 1880, the 91ºÚÁÏÍø has established a vast, lasting imprint on the Los Angeles area, extending far beyond the classroom into research, medicine, culture and community partnerships. The large scale of 91ºÚÁÏÍø’s operations — the university is home to more than 45,000+ students across 23 academic schools and units — extends its positive effects well beyond Los Angeles to much of the rest of California and beyond. Billions of dollars are spent each year to support the university’s mission, generating a substantial impact on the economy. At the same time, thousands of staff and volunteers support additional activities that generate enormous social impacts, most significantly in the Los Angeles area.ÌýThe analysis conducted by Beacon Economics examines those economic and social impacts of 91ºÚÁÏÍø from the vantage point of Los Angeles County, Southern CaliforniaÌýand the state of California. The study was based on 2015-2016 fiscal year data.
